Day On for MLK Day: Email Solidarity for Incarcerated Women

As many people celebrate MLK Day, we hope that you will make it a “day on” instead of a “day off.” Join the Women’s Justice Institute (WJI) and She Votes Illinois in the spirit of MLK in sending messages of solidarity to people in women’s prisons and fighting for freedom and equality.

Join us Monday, January 17, 2022 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm to learn how to send emails to people in prisons and then hear from formerly-incarcerated leaders and local organizations on how to make change, support legislation, and get involved. We have a list of over 1,200 people in women’s prisons in Illinois right now, and you can show them that they are not forgotten and stand with them in solidarity.

Other co-hosts include: Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, Moms United Against Violence and Incarceration, Safer Foundation, Restore Justice Illinois, Chicago Community Bond Fund, Ascend Justice, Bag Lady Outreach, The Human Rights Lab, Prison + Neighborhood Arts Project, The Center for the Study for Race, Politics and Culture, and the Illinois Prison Project.

*Sending emails to people incarcerated requires purchasing credits, which costs approximately $3 for 20 credits. If you would like to make a donation to sponsor email credits for others as this is often a challenge, especially for people just recently home from prison, please donate here: Donate here
