Listen to Black Women Who Lead
Listen to Black Women Who Lead with Illinois U.S. Representative Lauren Underwood & Georgia State Representative Regina Lewis-Ward There are unique challenges and historic firsts that intertwine for Black women that run for office in America. We invite you to Listen to Black Women Who Lead, a virtual panel discussion with Illinois U.S. Representative Lauren Underwood & Georgia State Representative Regina Lewis-Ward on Tuesday, February 21 at 6:00 PM CT/ 7:00 PM ET to dissect the truth and celebrate the historic nature of being a Black, women candidate and elected official in 2023. U.S. Representative Underwood is the youngest African American woman to serve in the United States House of Representatives & she is the first woman, the first person of color, and the first millennial to represent her community in Congress. In 2020, State Representative Lewis-Ward was the only African American woman in the entire country to successfully challenge an incumbent, white, male, Republican. She was the only Black woman to flip a state house district from red to blue in 2020. It is imperative our movement takes the initiative to give Black women the tools, advice, and connections required to become winning candidates and campaign operatives. Of the 147 women in the current Congress, only 26 women identify as Black – we can work together to change this. Register for RUN NOW’s panel Listen to Black Women Who Lead on Tuesday, February 21 at 6:00 PM CST/7:00PM ET. As NOW’s President Christian F. Nunes said, “While we observe and learn from the lessons of Black History Month, we know that Black history is something we make every day.” Join us on Feb.21 to hear directly from two historic Black women about their electoral journeys and the path ahead.
