SUMMARY:Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women Awareness Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:MMIW Day\, or Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women (and Relatives) Day\, is observed annually on May 5th to raise awareness about the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous people in the U.S. and Canada\, with people wearing red and holding events to honor victims\, demand action\, and advocate for justice for stolen relatives\, addressing systemic issues like jurisdictional gaps and violence against Native communities. \nIndigenous women and relatives face disproportionately high rates of violence\, sexual assault\, and human trafficking\, often due to jurisdictional complexities between tribal\, state\, and federal authorities\, and systemic issues like racism and discrimination. MMIW Day challenges the silence and inaction surrounding these crimes.

DESCRIPTION:On May 21\, 2026\, LGBTQ+ Illinoisans and our allies will come together in Springfield to advance LGBTQ+ equality. We are excited that you can join us! Please take a moment to complete the registration link below. \nEquality Illinois will coordinate transportation leaving downtown Chicago at 6:00 a.m.\, stopping in Joliet\, and then onward to Springfield. Buses are expected to return to Chicago by 9:00 p.m. \nFor safety reasons\, we will send out a detailed schedule closer to the day of the event. \nThank you for supporting Equality Illinois 2026 Advocacy Day.
